The 11th edition of the Fotografia Kolekcjonerska project will showcase items unique to the artists' work and those which have played a major role in the history of Polish photography. The oldest pictures date back to the early 20th century and are rare items on the market. For example, Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz - Witkacy's portraits, which are among this year's highlights, are much appreciated both by Polish and international collectors. One of Witkacy's self-portraits has been among the most expensive photographs auctioned in Poland to date. It went for a record price of PLN 135 thousand!
The pre-auction exhibition will be an overview of the key artistic trends in Polish photography. The collection of 100 plus works includes both such authors of iconic images as Jan Bułhak, Edward Hartwig, Zbigniew Dłubak, Jerzy Lewczyński and Zofia Rydet, and younger generation artists with international renown, like Rafał Milach, Anna Bedyńska, Kacper Kowalski and Karolina Breguła – to name just a few.

The body of works selected by the organisers represents a diversified collection of themes, being a unique document of Poland's modern history and Polish culture. The topics will range from scenes of post-war ruins of Warsaw taken by Karol Szczeciński, Edward Gierek and Piotr Jaroszewicz looking at watches on a symbolic photo by Bogdan Łopieński, to portraits of distinguished Poles, including that of Władysław Hasior by Andrzej B. Górski, Krzysztof Zanussi by Krzysztof Gierałtowski and Barbara Krafftówna by Zofia Nasierowska.
Interestingly, the collection is highly diversified in formal terms. Apart from traditionally made photographs, a unique collage by Jan Dziaczkowski and glass negatives from Jadwiga Maziarska's collection will come under the hammer.

Fotografia Kolekcjonerska is the only regular auctioning event dedicated exclusively to photography. Since its first edition in 2007, it has offered collectors a diversity of works by leading Polish artists. All lots are described in line with the world's art market standards. A key goal of the project is to promote the collection of photography in Poland. Hence the fringe programme, with film screenings, meetings and workshops. To make life easier for viewers and bidders, a bilingual (Polish-English) catalogue with biographical notes, reproductions and lot descriptions is available.
Curator: Katarzyna Sagatowska
