Expositions du 25/7/2013 au 11/8/2013 Terminé

Haus am Kleistpark Grunewaldstraße 6 – 7 10823 Berlin Allemagne

The works are currently on view in the solo exhibition “Recapturing Freedom | Die Rückeroberung der Freiheit” at Haus am Kleistpark Berlin.

At the End of Time

In his most recent cycle of work “At the End of Time” Torsten Warmuth examines the prospect of mankind’s ever closer approaching destruction of civilisation. His works become symbols of a chain of catastrophes that seem unstoppable if we make no protest against them. And yet Warmuth – paradoxical as this may seem – visualises the strikingly beautiful aspects of our world behind its deconstruction. Images of an era heralding the end time.

The accentuated dynamism of the motifs, the blurring of movement, and the multiple superimposition of individual photographic fragments are all stylistically characteristic of Warmuth’s work. Many of his images appear superficially dedicated to big-city, urban life; upon more careful examination, however, in these works he highlights human existence along with its fragility, injuries, and inner vistas.

Solo Exhibition “Recapturing Freedom”

Torsten Warmuth’s current exhibition “Recapturing Freedom” is curated by Berlin-based photo historian Dr. Enno Kaufhold. It not only shows the cycle “At the End of Time” but also provides a first survey of important works from the last decade of Warmuth’s creative production. The exhibition can be seen in Haus am Kleistpark Berlin until 11 August 2013.

About Torsten Warmuth

Fine artist Torsten Warmuth was born in Thuringia in 1968. Today he lives and works in Berlin. He came into contact with experimental photography in the 1980s. After completing a study of mathematics at the University of Kassel with a doctorate in 1995, he nonetheless decided against this profession in order to devote himself completely to photography. From the very beginning, he was fascinated by the possibility of fiction in photography; later it became his decisive means of expression. Warmuth regards the camera as an instrument, from which he elicits tones that are quite out of the ordinary; his images lie on the borderline between photography and painting.

The principle of fragmentary layering is applied not only in the Silver Paintings developed by Warmuth – unique works on silver gelatine paper produced by the artist mainly as large-format images. The current, hybrid colour works extend the artist’s oeuvre by the aspect of colour, thus attaining a new dimension of abstraction and expression. The limits of perception begin to waver and conventional media definitions are dissolved.

Warmuth’s works have been exhibited internationally in the Musée de l’Elysée Lausanne, the Hayward Gallery London, the Everard Read Gallery in Cape Town, and at the Art Festival Port Izmir etc. Warmuth has enjoyed representative solo exhibitions e.g. in the Kunstsammlungen Jena, Kunsthalle Erfurt and recognised Berlin galleries.
