Following the museum exhibition ‘Noritoshi Hirakawa x Luis Barragán’, in Mexico City, this solo exhibition will for the very first time on view in Europe, before travelling on to the US, France, and Japan.
Hirakawa’s work on a whole questions the future relationship between art and society, while similarly suggests a reconsidering of traditional role-play. Working in a variety of media – photography, film, dance, installation, and performance alike – Hirakawa’s work has been exhibited in over 300 exhibitions around the globe, including the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt, Center Pompidou in Paris, or PS 1 Museum in New York. Inspired by the creations of architect Luis Barragán, the artist manages to capture the essence, rather than the structure, of Barragán’s notorious “emotional” approach to architecture.
Whether sexual tension or emotional Hirakawa orchestrates games of power, desire, and communication, through the use of dancers, delicately both visualising and capturing human physicality, as well as emotional response to space.
