In this series of photo-based works, Ottawa artist Joy Kardish visits abandoned spaces where history intersects with imagination. DaleSmith Gallery is pleased to present Echo of the Dance, an exhibition of new photo-based works by acclaimed Ottawa artist Joy Kardish.
This series features images of derelict spaces before their inevitable reinvention or demise. They include the Sœurs de la Visitation convent in Ottawa, the Crystal Ballroom at Toronto’s King Edward Hotel, and the Valley Halla mansion outside Toronto, now used primarily as a film set.
In keeping with the nostalgic tone of the work, Kardish uses a myriad of 19th and 20th century alternative photographic techniques to create evocative images that weave together reality and fiction.
