Ayak Takaishi makes photographic images, subtly handled, whose references are simultaneously those of pictorial effects and those of her recording eye’s subjective capturings. Rejecting photomontage, ethnological documentation or a witnessing of events, her visual curiosity leads her to capture, within her camera, what her eye has suddenly noticed, and isolated, during its meanderings: urban or rural landscapes, still-lives or bodily fragments. However, she does not render them inside their original identity, but after subjecting them to her imagination’s filter, and to what she profoundly feels, for she knows there is no truth beyond references, beyond shapes’ outwards appearances. The outcome of these absolutely, technically, mastered combinations, in which controlled blurrings highlight unexpected byways, within a happy symbiosis between sobriety and a discreet outpouring, never contradicts the passage of emotion.
