"I began the “My Midori” series while photographing 50 women who, like me, had moved to New York City from an Asian country. This project expresses our struggle with an uncertain life.
Midori is a common Japanese female name. Anybody who is struggling in life can be a Midori. Midori is sitting everywhere in New York City. She struggles to find a new way. And though she can stand and walk, she still sits in the old way.
She tried to blend into New York when she first arrived. But the more she tried to understand them in her way, the more frustrated she became.
Everybody is different in this new place. Nobody is wrong.
Now, she feels and understands everything just the way it is. And she lives with herself just the way she is.
Maybe the struggle will never end in our life." - Mihyun Yang
