Willem Diepraam à la KAHMANN Gallery
Kahmann Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition of Willem Diepraam. Last December, Willem Diepraam donated approximately 800 of his own photographs to the photography collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The selection contains the most important part of his production, created between 1960 and 2010.
The fact that Diepraam’s photo’s are now amongst the works of so many great artists is an honour and recognition for this photographer, who has created a beautiful oeuvre. Partly because of his early pictures for magazines such as Vrij Nederland, Diepraam has had a big influence on Dutch photojournalism. Ed van der Elsken was born in Amsterdam in 1925. Inspired and shaped by his relationships, extensive international travels and work abroad, Van der Elsken was known as the “enfant terrible” of Dutch photography. A talented photographer and filmmaker, he documented his meetings with people in photographs and films for more than 40 years. He preferred to photograph striking individuals and would often attract the subject’s attention before taking the picture. Many of his subjects therefore look straight into the lens. His first photography book, Love on the Left Bank, was published during his Parisian period in 1956 and instantly made him world-famous. Some 20 photography books followed. Kahmann Gallery at Artantique
beautiful mix of rare vintage works and contemporary photography, with special attention for French photographer Tiane Doan Na Champassak.
Doan Na Champassak's fascination for real craft ship brings him to an endless search for exceptional, nearly antique photo paper. Paper of such great value that it is a museum piece on its own. Doan Na Champassak is one of the happy few that can work with the Fresson family, who have been executing prints in direct charcoal colour since 1952.
The latest series of Doan Na Champassak, has a lot to do with his interest in human beings, it is all about peeping. It consists of an installation of 20 new works, all gelatin silver prints, printed on various vintage and rare photo papers from the 1940's to 1970's. At Artantique this new series will be exhibited for the first time.

Kahmann Gallery presents a wonderful selection of both vintage and contemporary photographs from all artist represented by the gallery. Together they are a perfect embodiment of the heartbeat of the Kahmann Gallery and prove of its unique identity established since the foundation in 2004. Although quite different in age, meaning, content and technique, all works presented have a single thing in common: their origin in the creative spirit of a creator who transformed ideas, concepts, vision and feeling into an intriguing visual artwork that continues to induce both us and future generations.
