From a very young age I have used my body as an expressive tool. As a photographer that specializes in self-portraits, my relationship to my body has changed over time.
I now look at myself with the awareness of being seen, exploring the “I” that is both fiction and non-fiction.
Veronika is a new media artist working in photography, video, and performance.
Her work utilizes life experiences from her past, where fantasy and reality are interwoven. She enjoys her work process, and seeks constant play and creativity without prejudice, softening issues that at times prove challenging for society.
Using her body as a fundamental center in her work, Veronika calls to question realities we assume are valid. Her perception is not only of her own body but also of others’ bodies, inspired by unlikely work experience from her past, wherein the most important values were respect and generosity.
Veronika is known as an international artist who develops unique projects that disrupt pre-established boundaries, making her an exemplary figure in contemporary visual art.
Born in Uruguay, Veronika is based in Spain and spends part of the year in New York, where she remains active and open to new possibilities. She is represented by Galería Cero (Spain), and has participated in several events, among the most relevant: Museum Da2 and Metrópolis/Madatac (Spain), Milim Gallery (England), Concoran Gallery (USA), National Museum of Visual Art (Uruguay).
In 2012, she won the Photography Book Award, bestowed by CDF.
