Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, Toronto
CONTACT is an annual month long festival of photography with over 1000 local, national and international artists at more than 200 venues across the Greater Toronto Area in May. Founded as a not-for-profit organization 14 years ago, CONTACT is devoted to celebrating, and fostering an appreciation of the art and profession of photography. As the largest photography event in the world, and a premiere cultural event in Toronto, CONTACT stimulates excitement and discussion among a diverse audience that has grown to over 1.5 million and is focused on cultivating even greater interest and participation this year.

DONNA: FEMINIST AVANT-GARDE OF THE 1970s
Since its inception in 2004 the Sammlung Verbund focuses on the feminist art movement of the 1970s as one of the main areas of collecting. In keeping with its maxim, "Depth before Breadth", the fruits of this particular focus are now for the first time presented in Italy. The Galleria nazionale d'arte moderna in Rome shows an exhibition entitled DONNA: FEMINIST AVANT-GARDE OF THE 1970s from Sammlung Verbund, Vienna.
The director of the collection, Gabriele Schor, has taken the initiative and deliberately designated the feminist art movement of the 1970s as Feminist Avant-Garde, in order to emphasise its trailblazing role, as it is, like no other art movement in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, a decisive force in shaping contemporary art production. Depuis plusieurs années, la recherche photographique de Suzy Lake explore la notion d'identité en s'intéressant tout particulièrement à l'auto-représentation et aux multiples possibilités de l'apparence physique par la personnification de différents individus. [...] L'art de Lake nous rappelle que la photographie transmet une réalité subjective et manipulée. En contrôlant son sujet à la fois comme personnage et photographe, l'artiste se définit elle-même comme un élément d'étude.
