Stane Jagodič, « Variations of Photography (1969-1980) » at Photon – Centre for Contemporary Photography
Variations of Photography (1969-1980) is an exhibition and overview of Stane Jagodič’s heterogeneous photographic practices and their creative variations such as photo-montage, photo-collage and photo-performance.
The exhibition will show a selection of the most significant works from his extensive body of work - amongst them also some of the previously unpublished works - which characterise his artistic activities in the expanded field of art photography; one of the strongest aspects of his body of work. Between 1969 and 1980 Jagodič created a number of works exploring and questioning the possibilities of the photographic medium within the field of visual art. Extended Realities
From its earliest years, photographers have sought to overcome the limitations of making images from a single exposure, to adapt the picture-making strategies of printmaking, drawing, and painting, and to claim an equal place for photography among the fine arts. Photomontage — the combining of two or more photographic images into one — has been one strategy for achieving this goal. It was used in the 19th century by such practitioners as Oscar Gustave Rejlander and Henry Peach Robinson, and was popular in the early 20th century among the Dadaists and Surrealists as well as Russian Constructivist artists and Modernist photographers. It was the technique used by John Heartfield to skewer the Nazis in his many covers for the Arbeiter-Illustriete-Zeitung (The Workers Pictorial Newspaper)... - Exposition
