Anish Kapoor

Anish Kapoor naît d'un père, hindou originaire du Pendjab, hydrographe de la marine indienne ; et d'une mère née à Bagdad en Irak, dans une famille de confession juive, immigrée en Inde quand elle était âgée encore de quelques mois1.Anish Kapoor passe ses premières années à Bombay, puis à Dehra Dun où il étudie à l'école La Doon School. En 1971-1973, il se rend en Israël, avec l'un de ses deux frères, pour vivre dans un kibboutz. Il commence à étudier le génie électrique mais rencontre des difficultés en mathématiques et quitte au bout de six mois l'établissement. Petra Karadimas places the reality manipulating aspects of photography in the center of her endeavors. She eliminates the photographic grain by using a digital brushstroke, replacing the photographic trace through painterly means and classical compositions. Her images of seemingly remote situations -east-german buildings, billboard ads, construction fences, shrubbery or graffiti- conceptualize an image of the city that oscillates between the real and the virtual, thus reframing the urban.

James Karales

James Karales graduated from Ohio University with an M.F.A. in photography in 1955. His first job was as an assistant to W. Eugene Smith where he learned darkroom skills from the master. Early in his career, his work began to attract attention, most notably from Edward Steichen, the director of photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, who purchased two prints. Beginning in 1960, Karales was a photographer for LOOK magazine for 11 years, and became known for his landmark essays on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who granted him unprecedented access to his family. When LOOK closed in 1971, Karales became an independent photographer. His work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art and the International Center for Photography in New York.

Betsy Karel, born in New York City, now lives in Washington, DC. She worked as an award-winning photojournalist in the 1970's and early 80's. In 1998, after an absence of 15 years, she returned to photography to participate in The Way Home, a book and national exhibition on homelessness in America. During the past nine years, Karel has made numerous trips to Mumbai, creating the images in Bombay Jadoo. Her photographs are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Yale University Art Gallery, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the John F. Kennedy Library.
