Selbstvergessenheit - Miklos Gaál
The exhibition title refers to the mental state of immersion, void of directed and intentional thought but being open to the surroundings as an undifferentiated whole. Selbstvergessenheit affirms the possibility of enjoying events unexplained.
Gaál’s photographic thought reconsiders the ways in which photography is presented, read, and received. The exhibition is a collection of singular works from recent years including photographic prints, a hand printed artist book, a slide show and a silkscreen series that make up a playground in which the viewer’s relationship to photography is placed in the foreground.

Of great interest today, landscape photography is generally characterised by the horizon as an aid to perception. Within the international discourse on contemporary landscape photography, the present exhibition is the first to focus on those artistic visions which, each in its own way, mask and eliminate the horizon as the line separating earth from sky.
The process of perceiving and experiencing land as landscape is a phenomenon that originated in the art of the early modern age. Ever since the Renaissance, Western artists have employed perspective with its prominent horizon as a method to depict the threedimensional world. From the beginning of the twentieth century, however, this pattern of perception and representation has been transcended, as numerous artistic developments show.

L’exposition « Autres mesures », rassemble des œuvres issues de pratiques contemporaines diverses, dont les traitements modifient notre rapport aux échelles et aux proportions. Différents moyens seront conviés, de la maquette au collage in situ, de l’image fixe à l’image animée, ou encore à travers une programmation de films, pour restituer selon d’autres mesures les objets de nos imaginaires contemporains. Cette pluralité d’approches nous invite à jouer et à lâcher prise avec les normes et contraintes formelles de notre époque en quête de standards.
