Salon de Mai 2010, 62e édition
126 artistes exposent à l’Espace Commines, au coeur du quartier des galeries du 3e arrondissement de Paris, du lundi 24 mai au dimanche 30 mai 2010. Peintres, sculpteurs, photographes, graveurs, 60 % de ces artistes exposent pour la première fois au salon de mai.
Il ne suffit pas de rappeler le passé glorieux du Salon pour justifier sa présence encore aujourd’hui dans le champ distendu et malmené de l’art vivant. Si le salon de mai a exposé des artistes emblématiques comme Picasso, Miro, Matisse, Bacon, Calder, César, Soulages… seules les qualités des oeuvres qu’il montre maintenant l’autorisent à poursuivre son effort.

There is no photography. There is always only the photograph which gazes back at the viewer. Sometimes with a careful, tentative and questioning look; sometimes with a brisk or hasty glance. But it always offers something: an invitation to brief conversations. The viewer always looks, and the photograph, full of curiosity, gazes back. As in 1966, when the German reportage photographer Robert Lebeck took a portrait of the former German chancellor Konrad Adenauer at his 90 th birthday celebration in Bonn. The image, published in the magazine „Kristall”, shows nothing more than the left eye of the aged chancellor. The rest is covered by the portly body of a stranger. But this eye was already enough. Anita Neugebauer (born in 1916 in Berlin) studied photography at the Contempora – Lehrateliers für neue Werkkunst in Berlin in the 1930s. She is among the avantgarde of photo gallery owners and her collection includes masterpieces classic 20th-century photography. Her gallery photo art basel (1976 – 2004) was one of the first to promote the public presentation of photography at a time when it was not yet being collected as art or exhibited in museums. "The method simply photographing a pre-conceived object-world cannot be discussed aesthetically here but in its place, it can be said that the photographic creation of an object-world belongs to the artistic process. It is not the physical, material means of photography from which a selection must be made in every artistic work in order to obtain the artistic product as a totality of certain objects or significances, however concrete or abstract the art. In this kind of artistic photography, as practised by Karin Székessy, it is just these kind of objects or object-worlds which represent the repertoire which is the basis for the photographic print as an artistic object. For, as already stated, these objects are set out as an arranged object-world in the projected area of the cone of rays, and their project... - Exposition
