Women - Just Loomis
On 9 November 2013, Berlin-based galerie hiltawsky will open the exhibition 'Women' by American photographer Just Loomis. This follows the well received “As We Are”, 2011 at Hiltawsky and the group show “Three Boys from Pasadean”, 2009 at the Helmut Newton Foundation.
Just Loomis (*1957, Nevada) will present a selection of thirty-two photographs of women taken from 1986 to 2013.
'Women' is a persistent and potent subject for Loomis. There is a thematic progression of gender and identity throughout the images of friends and lovers, his wife and anonymous waitresses from Los Angeles. Classically beautiful models, twin sisters from Ireland and recent, simplified portraits taken in Northern Europe and Norway complete the series.

Just Loomis - As we are
Gallery Hiltawsky is pleased to announce As We Are - an exhibition by the American photographer Just Loomis (*1957, Nevada) – as of April 9, 2011.
The exhibition includes 30 color and b/w photographs that illustrate the empathetic, vivid and intimate world of this contemporary photographer. Although rooted in the tradition of social landscape photography, the naturalist genre from the mid-1950s, Loomis ventures deeper into the nature of his personal relationships and memories with this set of photographs. The work echoes a narrative, and documentary aesthetic, but gains its contemporary relevance through the examination of such concepts as alienation and social role placement-displacement.
“Loomis dispenses with formal experiments relying instead on a charity and affectionate perspective towards hu... - Exposition

Helmut Newton: Sumo and Three Boys From Pasadena
With SUMO, the Helmut Newton Foundation presents what might just be the most spectacular and expensive photography book project ever. Ten years ago, publisher Benedikt Taschen persuaded Helmut Newton to agree to produce a gigantic book with a print run of 10,000 copies, all signed by the photographer. Accompanied by a custom-made book holder by Philippe Starck, the book found its way into the homes of well-heeled buyers.
Now, for the first time, its 394 photographs will go on display to mark the 10th anniversary of a photography publication that today is a much sought-after collector's item. To accompany this presentation, Taschen will publish a smaller and revised version of the book for the regular book market.
In addition to SUMO, Mark Arbeit, George Holz and Just Loomis will be presented at the Helmut Newton Founda...
