FORMAT 2011, the UK’s leading international festival of contemporary photography and related media today announces its full programme for its 5th edition, taking place at various venues in and around Derby, 4th March – 3rd April 2011.
This year’s festival, curated by Louise Clements around the theme Right Here, Right Now: Exposures from the public realm, explores the resurgence of street photography – put simply, photographs taken in public places. Presenting more than 3,000 works by over 300 artists of international significance, FORMAT11 will provide the most comprehensive survey of street photography ever seen.

Fototagetrier 2010: LEBEN elementar
Conceptual background:
The non-profit organisation Kulturverein Bild und Kunst eV Trier is proud to announce that the first edition of the fototagetrier, the Trier Photo Days, will be held in 2010. The festival, which was conceived as a triennial event, will invest various museums and exhibition spaces in the city of Trier. Entitled “LEBEN elementar”, the first edition intends to survey a wide range of contemporary artistic practices based on photography or video and dealing with notions of contemporaneousness and existentiality.
The concept of the exhibition follows the observation that the gaps in our seemingly banal everyday – a seamless succession of events from birth and growing up to ageing and dying, interspersed with experiences of love and loss, joy and sadness, happiness and dismay, poverty ... - Exposition
Skin Curated by Giovanna Calvenzi, Mario Peliti and Laura Serani
The relationship between the different meanings and expressions of the word ‘skin’ is the theme of this exhibition. From the mummies of Alessandro Albert to the Miss Italys of Gianni Berengo Gardin, from Zed Nelson’s skin worked by plastic surgery to Annette Schreyer’s suffering skin of girls, Charles Frégers’ sumo wrestlers and Malick Sidibé’s black bathers, 18 photographers speak of colours, pathologies, old age, discrimination and beauty.
