Futoshi Miyagi

Born in 1981 in Okinawa, lives and works in Tokyo.
After graduating from high school, Miyagi moved to New York after living in Osaka and started his career as an artist whilst working in a bookstore specializing in art-related books. Miyagi's works are mostly derived from his personal experiences and memories, and underlying themes such as nationality, ethnicity, and identity. He develops these ideas and experiences in the form of photographs, videos, objects, texts, and installations.
His recent major exhibitions include “Time of Others” (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo/ The National Museum of Art Osaka, 2015), “VOCA: The Vision of Contemporary Art 2015”, The Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, 2015), “American Boyfriend: Bodies of Water” (Solo Exhibition, Kyoto City University of the Arts Gallery @KCUA and Horikawa Danchi, 2014) and “New Message” (Solo Exhibition, Post, Tokyo, 2013)
