Exhibition : « New Arrivals »
With New Arrivals, Bruno Zhu (Portugal, 1991) remodels the Foam 3h library into another reading room – one that flattens the representation of reading itself. Twisting time and space, both physically and conceptually, the installation juxtaposes visual motifs from the private space into the public and vice versa. This way, Zhu light-heartedly explores his fascination for photography’s ambivalent symbol as surface and object, representation and appropriation.
During New Arrivals, the Foam 3h room is occupied by flat and impractical representations of carpets, bookshelves and lamps. These image-objects conjure an alternative consumer circuit: found furniture imagery is scanned and reprinted as a sticker to the furniture’s original sizes, creating a blur between what is apparent with what is symbolic. Bruno Zhu (1991, Portugal) est artiste et créateur de bzbooks.org. Il vit à Amsterdam et a étudié à Central Saint Martins à Londres. Son travail actuel se concentre sur les relations qu’entretiennent l’édition et la photographie.
L’exposition présentée à TEMPLE amène la bibliothèque en ligne de Bruno Zhu (bzbooks.org) dans l’espace physique de la galerie en montrant tous les livres de son projet d’auto-édition. Ces deux dernières années, Bruno Zhu a crée un large corpus de travail utilisant la photographie et l’édition pour repenser le système narratif et la place du livre photographique.
