Prix BMW - Paris Photo ANNONCE DES 20 FINALISTES 2009
Le jury du Prix BMW – Paris Photo 2009 a sélectionné 20 artistes finalistes pour sa sixième édition. Le thème de ce prix, réservé aux artistes présentés par les galeries participantes à Paris Photo, est :
« Quand avez-vous vécu pour la dernière fois une expérience unique ? ». Ce thème met en mots la philosophie de la nouvelle BMW Série 5 Gran Turismo : une nouvelle expérience humaine, une nouvelle vision du monde.
Les 20 finalistes sélectionnés parmi 55 candidatures retenues seront exposés à Paris Photo du 19 au 22 novembre. L’artiste lauréat recevra le Prix doté de 12 000 euros en ouverture du Salon le 18 novembre prochain.

The subject of Barbara Probst's series Exposures (begun in 2000) is no less than the relation between time, perception, the photograph and reality. She uses several cameras to photograph one and the same (staged) action, event or situation from different perspectives at the same time. Then she selects and arranges them to make tableaux that are usually in several parts, or diptychs at the very least. Exposure, revelation, discovery, unmasking, the decisive moment, the 'armed' eye—Probst works her way through all these synonyms for photography in her installations. The individual parts of Exposures show unmistakably that the reconstruction of meaning, of an event or even of historical processes on the basis of photography is a virtually impossible undertaking. Barbara Probst - Exposure
Barbara Probst investigates the many ambiguities inherent to the photographic image. In her work the relationship of the photographic instant to reality is intensified in two distinct ways whereby the captured moment acquires an almost unsettling quality: on the one hand, Barabara Probst abandons the single-eye gaze of the camera and divides it into various points of view. On the other, she multiplies and diversifies the short moment of the shot. Thanks to a radio-controlled release system she can simultaneously trigger the shutters of several cameras pointed at the same event or subject from different angles and various distances.
