Tim Cooper's images, especially his black and white photographs, have been widely revered as fine pieces of art by his students, colleagues, and art collectors. His prints in particular are acknowledged as the product of a true craftsman.
For those twenty years, Tim has shown himself to be inspired by the nature that surrounded him, both where he lived (in breathtaking Montana) and wherever he is led by his work. From national parks, to iconic vistas throughout the United States, to remote spaces barely touched by man, Tim has been there with his camera.
Originally from New Jersey, he worked as an electrician before moving to Montana in 1991 to discover his love of photography. After attending night classes at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography, the passion was born and he attended the Summer Intensive Program the following year.
Tim began his career as a commercial and assignment photographer working with clients such as The North Face, The Ritz Carlton, Vasque boots, 3M and The International Heart Institute. His editorial and commercial photographs have appeared in Travel & Leisure, New York Times Magazine, Outdoor Photographer, Fly Rod & Reel, Northern Lights and Private Clubs as covers, advertising, art and editorial illustration. In addition to commercial work, Tim has also been involved with the Rocky Mountain School of Photography since 1993. He has taught workshops, classes, seminars, as well as held the positions of Consultant, Director of Education, Director of the Black and White Program and Director of Digital Imaging. Tim currently teaches various workshops, classes and seminars for the school in addition to writing and consulting on both photographic and digital technologies. He is the author of the training videos Perfect Exposure for Digital Photography, Perfect Composition, and Magic Light, The digital book, Capture Process Print, and his latest book Complete Photoshop CS4 for Digital Photographers.
Today, Tim combines his love for photography with his love for showing others a means by which they can realize their own similar passion. Through fun, clear and informative workshops, instructional books and videos, as well as his online club and social network, PHOTO CIRCLE, Tim hopes to share what he has learned by experience over the years.
Together with his students, Tim continues on a journey through the natural world to find truths, moments and delight both in the humbling beauty that surrounds us, as well as within ourselves.
