Bonhams' London Photographs department will hold its inaugural auction on 20th May, at 2pm, at the New Bond Street galleries, offering a broad range of photographic imagery - from the 19th century to the present day - at a wide and accessible range of prices.
Highlights include:
- Thomas Struth's 'The Ma Family, 1996' (£12,000-18,000)
- 'Femme dans la Baignoire, 2003' from Elina Brotherus' The New Painting series (£7,000-9,000)
- A strong section of fashion imagery including works by Horst P. Horst, Norman Parkinson, Lillian Bassman and Terence Donovan
- A superb example from Josef Koudelka's Gypsy series (£5,000-7,000)

The eye that never sleeps… C’est ainsi que Terence Donovan se définissait lui même. Il fait partie des grands photographes des années 60 à 80. Il est célèbre pour ses portraits de personnalité, ses nus et les reportages de mode. On découvre chez lui une approche « à l’anglaise » c’est à dire à la fois 100% traditionnelle et terriblement d’avant-garde.

Fashion in the mirror self-reflection in fashion photography
The international photographers in this exhibition undress the theatre of fashion and question the creation of perfect beauty. Fashion in the Mirror is an overview of their self-examination and a rare look behind-the-scenes of fashion photography from the 1950s to the present day.
Finding both comedy and poetry in the set-up of the studio, the exhibiting photographers turn their cameras on the processes and paraphernalia of the fashion shoot. Photographers become mirrored in their own work and, as viewpoints are inverted and gazes misdirected, cameras stare back out at us expectantly.
Revealing the fashion industry’s secrets and undermining its glamorous illusions, the photographers in this exhibition create work that exposes this world from within.
