Roman Bezjak was born in 1962 in Slovenia, raised in Germany and studied Photography in Dortmund. Starting from the mid 80's he has been working for renowned magazines such as Merian, Geo, Stern and Spiegel. From 1990 until 1999 he was a freelance photographer for the «Frankfurter Allgemeine» journal.
For over two decades he has published numerous reports and essays from all over the world. In 1995 he was awarded the «Deutsche Photopreis» and participated in the group exhibition „Das Deutsche Auge - 33 Blicke auf unser Jahrhundert«.
After completion of the long-term project „Der geteilte Himmel«, in which he explores postsocialist states, he continues dedicating his work to this subject. In „Archäologie einer Zeit« he focuses on the modern socialist architecture of eastern Europe.
Since 2000 he has been a professor of documentary photography at the FH Bielefeld, and has, in collaboration with his students, published many works/books («Sechs Wege nach Brüssel», «Atemwege», «jüdisches», «Gibt es die Welt auch ohne mich»). Roman Bezjak is currently living and working in Hamburg.
