Mladen Bizumic est né en 1976 à Sremska Mitrovica en Serbie.
Il vit et travaille à Vienne, Autriche.
By working in photography, video or installation, Bizumic makes arrangements that appear like scenes that await the event of their occurrence. He sets up displays of works that are always ‘works’ plus their x value. The x value stands for a number of contextual factors that constitute any exhibition (location, architecture, exhibition duration, institution etc.) There is a constant tension between the works and their display, the content and the context. Bizumic’s oeuvre is not about choosing one or the other but about the constant, precise and playful change of attention values. This fills space with time, opens up potentialities and creates new points of perception.
Mladen Bizumic is an artist whose work has been shown in the 10th Istanbul Biennial; MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art in Vienna; 9th Lyon Biennial, amongst other venues. His works have been collected by The George Eastman House, International Museum of Photography & Film, Rochester, NY; FRAC des Pays de la Loire, France; and Te Papa - Museum of New Zealand, Wellington, among many other private and public collections. He gained his MFA from the University of Auckland in 2003 ; received the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship at the University of Otago, Dunedin in 2004 ; and was an Artist-In-Residence at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin in 2006/2007.
Currently, he is completing his PhD in Art Theory & Cultural Studies under the supervision of Prof. Diedrich Diederichsen at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
