Photo Art - Photography in the 21st century (Collectif)
More adventurous in scope than other comparable compendiums, Photo Art is a vast critical survey of contemporary conceptual-oriented photography. It particularly addresses the work of artists emerging in Western and Eastern Europe--many of whom will be new to American audiences--and presents critical contexts for their work in accompanying essays. Gathering more than 120 image-makers from around the globe, this luscious compendium reads like an international art fair between covers, with the work of artists to watch now and in the future, from established figures to representatives of the newest generation. Among the artists featured here are Roy Arden, the Atlas Group, Seung Woo Back, Richard Billingham, Gerard Byrne, Claude Closky, Natalie Czech, Tacita Dean, Luc Delahaye, Ruud van Empel, J.H. Engstrom, Charles Freger,... - Vente
Auction : Modern and Contemporary Photographs - Villa Grisebach (Berlin)
312 lot numbers of modern and contemporary photography will be sold on Wednesday, May 28, at Villa Grisebach in Berlin.
Leading the sale is Irving Penn’s 1970 “3 New Guinea Men, (2 with Pipes),” a group portrait shot during a traditional dance festival, in a platinum palladium print of 1983. The portrait of the tribe members in noble embellishments, who in the photographer’s mobile tent studio assume a pose of highest concentration, is one of Penn’s most formidable works (€ 35,000/45,000).
From the estate of Otto Steinert, one of the pioneering German photographers of the post-war era, two of the most well-known subjects will be sold that document his preoccupation with finding way of personal photographic expression: “Rhythmus und Struktur,” 1951 (€ 20,000/3... - Exposition
Fototagetrier 2010: LEBEN elementar

The non-profit organisation Kulturverein Bild und Kunst eV Trier is proud to announce that the first edition of the fototagetrier, the Trier Photo Days, will be held in 2010. The festival, which was conceived as a triennial event, will invest various museums and exhibition spaces in the city of Trier. Entitled “LEBEN elementar”, the first edition intends to survey a wide range of contemporary artistic practices based on photography or video and dealing with notions of contemporaneousness and existentiality.
The concept of the exhibition follows the observation that the gaps in our seemingly banal everyday – a seamless succession of events from birth and growing up to ageing and dying, interspersed with experiences of love and loss, joy and sadness, happiness and dismay, poverty ... - Exposition
Time Works
We are pleased to announce a solo show by Michael Wesely (*1963) at our new gallery space at Steinheilstrasse 18 in Munich.
“In recent years, it has been possible to discern an attitude in the way Michael Wesely sees himself that would suggest a specific attempt on his part to implement his artistic ideas in a more concentrated and intensive manner. We are not talking about a change in strategy here, rather a considered artistic reorientation in connection with a critically self-assured revision of his overall production, which has led him to re-examine his archived works once more. This current selection of images represents Wesely’s commitment to this revision; it contains largely new examples as well as some older images, occasionally reverting to spacious photographs, taking details from them, ... - Exposition
Summer Loves
This exhibition is based on the idea of 'infatuations' that can affect both photographers and exhibition curators. People often suppose that museums make choices as objectively as possible, but actually this is far from from the truth. Just as an artist may feel physically and emotionally attracted to a particular subject, the collector or curator might also have a ‘crush’ on a certain work. The term ‘the infatuated camera’ comes from the title of a 1971 film by Ed van der Elsken, De Verliefde Camera, a compilation of travel clips previously filmed by him. This exhibition has been assembled in a similar way; photographs and film rushes from the present day contrast with excerpts and impressions from the previous century. Works have been seemingly casually arranged according to summery themes: hang...
