Jan Groszer worked as a psychiatrist with a speciality in addictions in East London until 2010 when he resettled to Berlin, Germany, working for a final year as a psychotherapist before dedicating himself fully to photography. Through his work with marginalised populations in London, he became interested in the construction of self in consumer culture, themes of alienation and belonging, and the role of consumer fetishes.
He decided to pursue these themes through images mixing autobiographical and fictional elements exploring concepts of sexuality and intimate relationships within consumerist lifestyles.
