Angelika Knapper Gallery presents «Slumberland» by Helena Blomqvist
"This new series of images show sequences from a young boy’s nightly dreams, inspired by my son’s dreams and nightmares. Accompanied by a monster the boy views from a distance the wonders of civilization and great adventures. But they also embark on journeys of their own. It is about taking that step out of the ordinary and to view things from a new perspective; with the boy’s gaze. At night the street where he lives turns into a magical place, and escorted by his toys he enters the world of computer games. There is a boat at sea transforming into a great voyage. He defeats his fears and embarks on a journey towards the unknown." (Helena Blomqvist)

Helena Blomqvist - The Elephant Girl

It took a while before I noticed them. The procession clothed in black progressed during silence amongst the naked trees. All wearing black, like mourners. An anonymous cortege, a black river of despondence outlining itself against the white snow. The long skirts, the capes and the big hats spoke of different and distant times. But it was first after a while I discovered that the procession did not consist of human beings but of - monkeys.
