Exhibition : « MACARÉU » by Christian von Alvensleben
"This work is a continuation of my black and white photographic series of people, archaic forms of life, nature and the force of nature. In this confrontation with water, the most primordial element on our planet, I portray its incredible power and brutal beauty. The photographs were taken at the beginning of 2016 on the west coast of Portugal. There, during the winter and spring storms, waves are thrown up that can be roughly 30 meters high if the tides, phase of the moon and direction of the wind are propitious. An additional factor is the 5000 meter-deep canyon in the Atlantic Ocean that stretches to the Portuguese coastline, where swells and formations enormously amplify the waves so that they can pile up as high as a ten-story house. The direct confrontation with these gigantic waves was a challenge to me."... - Exposition
Exhibition: Christian von Alvensleben
Fifteen million years ago an island rose out of the sea off the west coast of Africa. Again and again ash and lava shot into the skies and plummeted back into the waves of the Atlantic in an inferno of fire and water, smoke and steam until, layer by layer, a black volcanic cone rose above the water. Lanzarote, the "Isla Negra". The island has never come to rest. The volcanoes remain active through to the present day and throw up faulted strata, whilst wind and water simultaneously break the porous rock from the cliffs, grinding it into black granulate.

"Archaik" by Christian von Alvensleben
Under the title ‘ARCHAIK’ the Flo Peters Gallery is opening an exhibition of new works by the photographer Christian von Alvensleben. On show are 43 black and white photographs of original objects which Christian and Helga von Alvensleben collected at places worldwide and photographed with a plate camera using the analogue photography technique. These works are devoted to a presentation of the primeval forms of life and confront the beholder with the transience of all human life. One of the series shows in impressive portraits the participants of a seemingly archaic Greek spring festival based on ancient customs, whereas other series acquaint the viewer with the veracity inherent in prehistoric objects such as shells, stones, bones and cactuses in authentic, unadorned close-up photographs.

- Exposition
Christian von Alvensleben - 'GodTrees' and 'SeaFruit'
From 2003 to 2006 Christian von Alvensleben took photographs of olive trees in Greece. These witnesses of an ancient European culture and provider of numerous essential goods are God trees.
At the same time Christian von Alvensleben started to collect and photograph 'attractive' rubbish, the leftovers of today's consumer goods, the sea fruit washed up onto beaches by the sea.
'GodTrees' and 'SeaFruit' characterise yesterday and today.
'The attractions of proximity or alienation of the unusual, of the new, put a connoisseur and expert such as Christian von Alvensleben in a state of readiness to mediate the presentation of an image. He takes us across country and overseas and has his silent images und select objects relate something to us. He has us watch, realise, see behind, see differently. Fantasy becomes animat...
