Galerie f5,6 is happy to present the first solo exhibition of photographer Anne Schwalbe in Germany.
Handmade prints from the series Blindschleiche und Riesenblatt (Slowworm and giant leaf), Wiese (Meadow) and Vulkan oder Stein (Volcano or Stone) will be on display at f5,6 from May 11 to August 27.
„Volcano or Stone is a series about stones. More or less. It also is a series about the sky and the earth, rivers and lakes. But actually it is about silence, voids and slowness.“ That is how Anne Schwalbe describes her most recent series, but at the same time she contours the loose but overarching concept of her photographic work so far. The photographs of Anne Schwalbe were shot in and around Berlin and Brandenburg, the river Elbe and the Baltic Sea, in Portugal and in London – but the locations are not meant to be of importance to the beholder. Anne Schwalbe - Blindschleiche und Riesenblatt
The series Blindschleiche und Riesenblatt by photographer Anne Schwalbe can be seen as an ode to slowness - an ode to nature, light and emptiness. Schwalbe photographs her surroundings intuitively, with no preconceived ideas. Compiled in a publication or hanging together in an exhibition, the photos become the lines of a poem. Photographed prose. Anne Schwalbe visualizes stillness, providing another voice and a welcome change from the contemporary visual bombardment.
In the series Blindschleiche und Riesenblatt (translated literally as: slow worm and giant leaf) Anne Schwalbe has reduced the world around her to core images. With no reference to location or other narrative aspects, she reveals what has caught her notice, or the things that fascinate her. Rain dripping into water, a close-up of a dung-hill or colour...
