Photo12 Galerie accueille la photographe norvégienne Anja Niemi, pour la première fois en France avec sa toute nouvelle série “La Femme Qui N’a Jamais Existé — The Woman Who Never Existed”.
Ici la photographe raconte une histoire. Celle d’une actrice qui n’existe qu’à travers la présence et le regard de son spectateur. Lorsque celui-ci n’est plus, elle disparaît aussitôt. À la fois photographe, actrice, metteur en scène ; sujet et objet de son propre travail, Anja Niemi s’inscrit dans le mouvement de la staged photography illustré par Cindy Sherman et Jeff Wall.

In the new series Darlene & Me, Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi inhabits a house in the California desert, in which she explores the fictional character Darlene. Niemi continues to function as the photographer, subject and director of her images, aiming as always for absolute control.
Darlene & Me started with the content of a suitcase from 1959, that left the photographer thinking about the relationship we have with ourselves. The case belonged to a beauty counselor named Darlene and contained makeup samples, brochures and the receipts from her sales. In the new series Darlene & Me, Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi inhabits a house in the California desert, in which she explores the fictional character Darlene. Niemi continues to function as the photographer, subject and director of her images, aiming as always for absolute control. The images portray two women photographed together in displays of conflict or simply in each others' company, whether in agony or comfort. The two are, of course, one and the same person telling the story of a woman's complex relationship with herself.
