Alessandro Penso is an Italian freelance documentary photographer. Deeply committed to social issues, Alessandro has made immigration in Europe and the Mediterranean his focus in recent years. In 2014, he won First Prize - General News Singles in the World Press Photo contest for his work on a Bulgarian refugee camp; he received a prestigious Magnum Foundation Emergency Fund Grant to continue working on the issue of refugees and asylum seekers in Bulgaria.. His work from Greece was also the focus of a major exhibition entitled "The European Dream: Road to Bruxelles", which travelled through Italy, France, Switzerland and Belgium to the European Parliament in June and July 2014, with the support of UNHCR.Alessandro Penso is an Italian freelance documentary photographer. Your camera is a powerful tool for social change. Learn from and be inspired by freelance Italian photojournalist Alessandro Penso as he discusses how he went from idea, to long-term project into an innovative travelling exhibition. Drawing on his own personal focus on immigration and asylum seekers in Europe and the Head On exhibition it spawned, Penso will discuss how you can use your photography to raise awareness for a social issue. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss their own work and their ideas, and to present up to two bodies of work for critique and discussion.
