Kantje boord.
Lace in past and present through the lens of Karin Borghouts
Snapshot is a series of photography exhibitions around Bruges intangible cultural heritage. In Snapshot 9 photographer Karin Borghouts unites various aspects of the rich tradition of lace. A refined craft into a tourism product, from handicrafts to computer-controlled production, from decoration to an art form. The boundary between real or not real, handmade or industrial, art and kitsch is sometimes difficult to draw clear.
In the Folklore Museum, three organizations show a modern way to continue the tradition of lace: the Kantclub Ver-Assebroek, Kant-Act and the Academy of Fine Arts.
Snapshot received in 2013 the Heritage Prize of the Province of West Flanders (B).
