Sportplatz Landhof Riehenstrasse 78a CH-4058 Basel Suisse
SCOPE, the art show that has established its name by curating cutting edge contemporary art from around the world, returns to Basel for the third year, running concurrent with Art Basel from 8th - 14th June. This year SCOPE is in a new, specially built venue on the Sportzplatz Landhof, just 200m from Art Basel, in the heart of the city. Previously located on Uferstrasse 80 on the Rhine, SCOPE's new venue, with a pavilion offering over 8,000 m², will provide an excellent opportunity for gallerists, collectors, curators, artists, critics and art lovers alike to experience a view of the contemporary art market available nowhere else.
Since 2002 when SCOPE was founded by artist Alexis Hubshman, it has grown extensively in both volume and stature, becoming a major international art event in its own right, with annual fairs in Miami, New York, Basel, the Hamptons and London, and further fairs planned for Madrid and Dubai.
"We've evolved from an industry niche to an influential global contributor, with ongoing events, educational programmes, and the SCOPE Foundation 501(c)3 which has introduced artists, curators, and cutting edge galleries to new audiences internationally," Alexis Hubshman, President of SCOPE explains."This has made SCOPE the most comprehensive destination for the emerging art world available anywhere and we are proud to be an influential presence in the expanding global art market."This year's Basel edition of the fair will be its most international manifestation yet, with 90 galleries from around the world and a focus on Asia and Berlin.
SCOPE is also showcasing ART ASIA, a premier international Asian contemporary art fair, which will make its debut in Basel following a successful launch in Miami 08. ART ASIA Basel will present a highly selective list of international galleries showcasing the finest examples of paintings, drawings, prints, photography, sculpture, mixed media, installations, and video from both established and emerging Asian artists. In addition, through a partnership / special alliance with National Treasure Funds of China and China Foundation for the Development of Social Culture, an organization affiliated with the Ministry of Culture of China, ART ASIA will further develop academic and cultural exchange programmes and introduce a wider audience to Asian contemporary art.
