Contemporary Art in Context: Mining Memory: Rethinking the ArchiveView the full lecture here; windowexchange.org Mary Anne Redding and Joanne Lefrak / Tuesday, November 15, 2011, 6 pm Many of the artists in Agitated Histories examine the contents of historic archives and re-present the material in new and unexpected ways to re-contextualize the subject matter. This reimagining of the facts of history serves to increase our understanding of the historical event and also forces us to question the reality or truths of the historical event. In this lecture, Lefrak will examine the works in SITE's exhibition by Sam Durant, Lorraine O'Grady, Zoe Leonard and Cheryl Dunye, which all reference photography archives. Mary Anne Redding will dialogue with Lefrak to share her expertise in photographic archive collections and further contextualize the work presented at SITE. Mary Anne Redding is the Curator of Photography at the Palace of the Governors/New Mexico History Museum. She has more than 25 years of experience working as a curator, archivist, librarian, educator, writer, and arts administrator. Joanne Lefrak is the Director of Education and Outreach at SITE Santa Fe.

SI Channel | Pati Hertling presents Heart to HandConceived of in the wake of the #occupywallstreet movement and the Republican primaries, Pati Hertling's exhibition Heart to Hand addresses the relationship between aesthetics and social conscience. At first sight, the selected artworks are formally abstract, yet upon further meditation, their conceptual disobedience is revealed. The works in this exhibition suggest and provoke political themes yet leave the response and action to the public. Heart to Hand features works by Zoe Leonard, Klara Liden, Adam Pendleton and Oscar Tuazon/Elias Hansen

Lynne Cooke and Douglas Crimp at The New SchoolPublic Art Fund Talks at The New School: Lynne Cooke and Douglas Crimp THE NEW SCHOOL | www.newschool.edu Kicking off the spring 2011 Public Art Fund Talks series "New York Stories," noted curators Lynne Cooke and Douglas Crimp will discuss their exhibition Mixed Use, Manhattan Photography and Related Practices, 1970s to the Present, which was on view at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid from June through September 2010. Mixed Use, Manhattan surveyed the how artists have used New York City's run-down lofts, abandoned piers, vacant lots, and deserted streets during its period of intensive de-industrialization in the 1970s and continuing to the present. As a centerpiece of their show, Cooke and Crimp reassembled Projects: Pier 18, Willoughby Sharp's 1971 collection of 27 artists' projects arranged on a dilapidated Hudson River pier. Mixed Use, Manhattan also featured more than 250 works by 40 artists, including Danny Lyon, Joan Jonas, Peter Hujar, Thomas Struth, Zoe Leonard, David Wojarowicz, Barbara Probst, Steve McQueen, and Emily Roysdon. Cooke and Crimp will discuss the genesis and realization of the exhibition and the accompanying film program and catalogue, using installation views, photographs, and film clips to illustrate their conversation. "Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance"View the online exhibition and more at www.guggenheim.org Solomon R. Highlighted here are several artists from the exhibition, documenting the widespread contemporary obsession with the past. Made possible by the International Director's Council of the Solomon R.
