© arte.tv

PARIS PHOTO 09 by IsabelLima

Paris Photo 2009 will inaugurate this Thursday, November 19, and will run through November 22 at the Carrousel du Louvre, offering visitors a rare overview of historic and contemporary photographic production from and concerning the Arab countries and Iran, with 89 galleries and 13 publishers from 23 countri The guest curator for this edition is Catherine David, who directed Documenta X in Kassel in 1997 and has since developed a number of projects on Contemporary Arab Representations. The theme will be explored through three elements of Paris Photo: the Central Exhibition, the Statement section and Paris Photos Project Room. Paris Photo, the worlds leading event for photography since 1997, this year is demonstrating that contrary to what is often assumed there is a real attraction to the photographic image in the Arab countries and Iran, and the relationship with this medium goes back a long way. The main section of the fair will present examples of studio photography from the 1870s to the 1960s, from the collection of the Arab Image Foundation, an institution created in 1997 in Beirut dedicated to the photographic heritage of the Arab world. Together with well-known names like Walid Raad, Yto Barrada and Lara Baladi, it will be possible to get closer to this constantly growing and moving culture. In addition to this platform, a large number of galleries in the general section have chosen to pay tribute to the work of artists from the Middle East, or to Western artists ...

Sao Paulo Biennial 2010

www.vernissage.tv | The 29th Bienal de São Paulo exhibition shows works of art by approximately 160 artists from all over the world. The Bienal is titled "There is always a cup of sea to sail in" ("Há sempre um copo de mar para um homem navegar"). It "is anchored on the notion that it is impossible to separate art from politics. Such impossibility is expressed in the fact that art, through ways of its own, is capable of blocking the sensorial coordinates through which we understand and inhabit the world by bringing into it themes and attitudes that did not previously fit in, thus making it different and wider." The 29th Bienal de São Paulo is curated by Moacir dos Anjos and Agnaldo Farias and by a team of guest curators from various backgrounds. The curators are Fernando Alvim (Angola), Rina Carvajal (Venezuela USA), Yuko Hasegawa (Japan), Sarat Maharaj (South Africa / UK), and Chus Martinez (Spain). The 29th Bienal de São Paulo comprises of different parts. The exhibition, an educational program, discursive activities, art residencies, and its website.

Kommt zahlreich! Vielleicht werdet Ihr Eure alltägliche Umgebung mit anderen Augen sehen?
