Thomas StruthThomas Struth zählt seit Ende der 1990er Jahre zu den bekanntesten und erfolgreichsten deutschen Künstler von internationalem Rang. Bezeichnend für Struths künstlerische Praxis ist die Arbeit an aufeinander folgenden Werkgruppen, zB Foto-Serien von Straßenansichten, Personen (Portraits), Blumen, Familien, Museen, Landschaften. Durchgesetzt in der Kunstkritik und auf dem Kunstmarkt hat sich Thomas Struth vor allem mit den Werkgruppen „Die Architektur der Straßen und „Portraits. Seine Architekturaufnahmen zeigen alltägliche städtische Ensembles, Plätze und Straßenzüge, die von Passanten eher unbewusst wahrgenommen werden, aber Spuren von städtischer Entwicklung und dem Gebrauch der Stadträume enthalten. Insgesamt stellen Struths Werkgruppen regelmäßig konventionelle Sichtweisen auf überkommene fotografische Sujets in Frage, unterlaufen Sehgewohnheiten und -erwartungen bzw. erweitern den fotografischen Kunstbegriff. Struths Vorgehen ist nicht unumstritten. Angesichts der Vielfalt und Heterogenität des von ihm erarbeiteten Oeuvres (zwischen Dokumentation und Manipulation) wird ihm auch Beliebigkeit vorgeworfen. Thomas Struth (1954)Thomas Struth is a German photographer, educated at the Düsseldorf Academy. After having explored cityscapes and family portraits, Struth started working on his best-known cycle, Museum Photographs, in 1989. In 2011, the National Portrait Gallery commissioned him a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Thomas Struth, Raffaello Room I-Rome 1990/ Gabriele Chiattone, The wedding of the Virgin , 1905-10The German photographer represents people in the Raffaello Room of the Vatican Museum in Rome. The photograph shows the artwork, the space surrounding it and the people looking at it. A complex relationship, captured in an objective manner. It is interesting to compare the space in the photograph with the space in the painting by Chiattone. We can see that the positioning of people in space is similar in the two works.

Lynne Cooke and Douglas Crimp at The New SchoolPublic Art Fund Talks at The New School: Lynne Cooke and Douglas Crimp THE NEW SCHOOL | www.newschool.edu Kicking off the spring 2011 Public Art Fund Talks series "New York Stories," noted curators Lynne Cooke and Douglas Crimp will discuss their exhibition Mixed Use, Manhattan Photography and Related Practices, 1970s to the Present, which was on view at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid from June through September 2010. Mixed Use, Manhattan surveyed the how artists have used New York City's run-down lofts, abandoned piers, vacant lots, and deserted streets during its period of intensive de-industrialization in the 1970s and continuing to the present. As a centerpiece of their show, Cooke and Crimp reassembled Projects: Pier 18, Willoughby Sharp's 1971 collection of 27 artists' projects arranged on a dilapidated Hudson River pier. Mixed Use, Manhattan also featured more than 250 works by 40 artists, including Danny Lyon, Joan Jonas, Peter Hujar, Thomas Struth, Zoe Leonard, David Wojarowicz, Barbara Probst, Steve McQueen, and Emily Roysdon. Cooke and Crimp will discuss the genesis and realization of the exhibition and the accompanying film program and catalogue, using installation views, photographs, and film clips to illustrate their conversation. Thomas Struth (1954)Thomas Struth ist ein deutscher Fotograf der an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf studiert hat. Nachdem er Stadtlandschaften und Familienporträts geschaffen hatte begann Struth im Jahr 1989 an seiner bekanntesten Reihe, den Museum Photographs zu arbeiten. Im Jahr 2011 wurde er von der National Portrait Gallery beauftragt ein Porträt von Königin Elizabeth II und dem Duke von Edinburgh anzufertigen.

THOMAS RUFF - stellar landscapesTHOMAS RUFF - STELLAR LANDSCAPES Der Düsseldorfer Fotokünstler Thomas Ruff gehört neben Thomas Struth, Axel Hütte, Candida Höfer und Andreas Gursky zu den erfolgreichsten deutschen Künstlern der Gegenwart. Über zwei Jahre durften wir den Künstler im Atelier, beim Fotografieren, beim Rahmenbauer und der Bildbearbeitung begleiten. Entstanden ist ein 50minütiger Dokumentarfilm für unsere DVD EDITION MEDIA ART, der am 28.09.2011 im Landesmuseum Münster - im Rahmen der Ausstellung "stellar landscapes" Premiere feiern wird.
