Stanley Greene est l'un des photojournalistes les plus importants de notre époque. Après avoir étudié la peinture il s'oriente, encouragé par le photojournaliste William Eugene Smith, vers la photographie qu'il pratiquait en amateur depuis l'enfance. Il se fait la main — et l'œil — en faisant des clichés lors de concerts de rock, puis effectue quelques commandes de photos de mode à Paris. À l'effondrement du mur de Berlin en 1989, le succès international de sa photo prise in situ Baisers à tous est une révélation. Il part dès lors pour courir le monde sur les fronts de nombreux conflits et catastrophes naturelles. Il a des allures de rock star : boots en cuir, bagues et tête de mort, mais quand il dit « je pense qu'on ne peut rester optimiste que huit ans. Ceux qui le restent plus longtemps se transforment. Et pas en beau papillon », on lui prêterait le pouvoir du Chaman, celui qui peut voir au-delà du monde des vivants. This year's jury included: Anna Grip, Editor of Photonews in Germany; Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, Director of the Leica Gallery in Salzburg, Austria; Stanley Greene, a Professional Photographer based in France and the USA and Mark Rykoff, Photo Editor at Time.com. After many, many hours of reviewing submissions, the winners were selected. Here's a video with a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the judges deliberating. No one seems to know, but Jason Trotter and I got into a little altercation, a slap-boxing altercation, sophmore year. A little history on slap boxing; usually its the more "PG" rated version of boxing and most of the time its just for fun. The most popular game is "3 to the Head" where whoever hits the other person 3 times in the head wins. Trott and I decided to slapbox in a hotel room sophmore year on a road trip during basketball season with a couple other teammates present, one having a camera phone. We ALL know how retarded Trotter is, so this dummy decides to break all rules of slapboxing and I had to show him how we do it up in Mount Laurel, NJ.
