Rineke Dijkstra: I can see a woman cryingRineke Dijkstra's video "I can see a woman crying" in het Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. Britse leerlingen van een kunsteducatie-klas filosoferen in TATE Liverpool bij het kijken naar Picasso's schilderij De wenende vrouw. Het werk zelf is voor ons niet zichtbaar. De kinderen lijken te antwoorden op vragen van iemand die buiten beeld blijft. Ze noemen hun observaties, associaties en veronderstellingen naast elkaar. Kenmerkende woorden die ze gebruiken zijn: of, misschien en het lijkt. Ze gebruiken geen 'maar'en gaan niet met elkaar in discussie.

Rineke Dijkstra . Fotografin . arteRineke Dijkstra studierte von 1981 bis 1986 in Amsterdam an der Gerrit Rietveld Akademie. Seit 1984 stellt sie ihre Werke in den Niederlanden und anderen europäischen Ländern aus. Dijkstra wurde sehr schnell durch ihre konsequente Arbeit an Einzelprojekten international bekannt. Sie stellt Portrait-Serien her (in der Regel Ganzkörperportaits) z. B. von Toreros, Frauen nach der Entbindung, Fremdenlegionären oder Jugendlichen am Strand. Die Personen präsentieren sich direkt bzw. posieren vor der Kamera in ihrem aktuellen Umfeld und es entstehen Fotografien, die einen ausgeprägt eigenen Stil besitzen.

Rineke Dijkstra (1959)Rineke Dijkstra attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academy for Fine Arts and Design in Amsterdam. In her photographic works she usually focuses on single or group portraits, showing the subjects in front of a minimal backdrop. Dijkstra works in series and aims at specific groups of people, such as teenagers, soldiers or women who have just given birth.

Te zien zijn foto's uit de serie Park Portraits van de beroemde Nederlandse fotografe en landschapstekeningen van meesterkunstenaar Claude Lorrain. Rineke Dijkstra De getoonde werken van Rineke Dijkstra (1959) zijn foto's die zij maakte in 2005 en 2006 van jonge mensen in het park. In vergelijking met andere fotoseries van Dijkstra, speelt in deze foto's de omgeving van de geportretteerde kinderen en adolescenten een grote rol. De contactafdrukken die nu voor het eerst tentoongesteld worden, laten het zoekproces van de kunstenaar naar de juiste lichtval, kadrering en positionering zien. Sommige foto's blijken op dezelfde locatie te zijn genomen, maar door een ander licht of standpunt volkomen verschillende resultaten op te leveren. Het ideale landschap De werkwijze van Rineke Dijkstra doet denken aan de zoektocht naar de ideale verbeelding van het landschap zoals die te zien is in de tekeningen die de 17de-eeuwse landschapschilder Claude Lorrain (1600-1682) maakte in de omgeving van zijn woonplaats Rome. Rineke Dijkstra,The Heinrich Böll Gesamtschule, Cologne, Germany, November 2, 1994, Edition 6, 1994The artist travelled around Europe, taking pictures of students at different locations and schools. This picture was taken in Cologne, at the school and in the year noted in the title. The girl stares at the camera without any specific emotion; still, her frailty and her sensitive psychology are evidently portrayed. Her haircut and clothes depict a contemporary girl: an icon and an individual adolescent at the same time, with all the uncertainty typical of girls her age.

Rineke Dijkstra, Ostenda , Belgium, August 1992This image belongs to a series of portraits depicting young European students in the early 1990s. As it is often the case with this series, three youngsters are represented against a neutral background: on a beach, with the artificial light of the camera flash flattening any shadow. The portrait is not about individual human beings, but rather the representation of a generation. Frailty and tenderness surface, despite the apparently defiant posture.

In this way I am able to provide a complete in-house service for my clients. My curiosity for photography enveloped when I started to photograph for one of the most well known Dutch music websites, love2party.nl . During this period, I developed such a network within the music industry, which enabled me to make a serie of portraits of international DJs like Louie Vega, Denis Ferrer, Lucien Fort and Benny Rodrigues. From that point on I knew I have found my passion; photography. Even though the trigger was my love for good music, my professional work is aimed towards the fashion and advertising industry. In a short period of time I was able to extend my portfolio with clients such as L'Oreal, Quick and Talkies magazine.
