Art of Rene Magritte- Psychological surrealism (music-ENIGMA)WELCOME TO VISIT MY PRIVATE SITE : www.irmaroza.com René François Ghislain Magritte (November 21, 1898 -- August 15, 1967) was a Belgian surrealist artist. Magritte was born in Lessines, Belgium in 1898, the eldest son of Léopold Magritte, a tailor, and Adeline, a milliner. He began drawing lessons in 1910. In 1912, his mother committed suicide by drowning herself in the River Sambre. Magritte was present when her body was retrieved from the water. The image of his mother floating, her dress obscuring her face, may have influenced a 1927-1928 series of paintings of people with cloth obscuring their faces, including Les Amant, but Magritte disliked this explanation. He studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels for two years until 1918. In 1922 he married Georgette Berger, whom he had met in 1913. Magritte worked in a wallpaper factory, and was a poster and advertisement designer until 1926 when a contract with Galerie la Centaure in Brussels made it possible for him to paint full-time. In 1926, Magritte produced his first surreal painting, The Lost Jockey (Le jockey perdu), and held his first exhibition in Brussels in 1927. Critics heaped abuse on the exhibition. Depressed by the failure, he moved to Paris where he became friends with André Breton, and became involved in the surrealist group. When Galerie la Centaure closed and the contract income ended, he returned to Brussels and worked in advertising. Then, with his brother, he formed an agency, which ...
René MagritteRené François Ghislain Magritte (21 November 1898 15 August 1967) was a Belgian surrealist artist. He became well known for a number of witty and thought-provoking images. His intended goal for his work was to challenge the observer's preconditioned perceptions of reality and force the viewer to become hypersensitive to their surroundings. Magritte was born in Lessines, in the province of Hainaut, in 1898, the eldest son of Léopold Magritte, who was a tailor and textile merchant, and Régina (neé Bertinchamps), a milliner until her marriage. Little is known about Magritte's early life. He began lessons in drawing in 1910. On 12 March 1912, his mother committed suicide by drowning herself in the River Sambre. This was not her first attempt; she had made many over a number of years, driving her husband Léopold to lock her into her bedroom. One day she escaped, and was missing for days. She was later discovered a mile or so down the river, dead. According to a legend, 13 year old Magritte was present when her body was retrieved from the water, but recent research has discredited this story, which may have originated with the family nurse. The image of his mother floating, her dress obscuring her face, may have influenced a 19271928 series of paintings of people with cloth obscuring their faces, including Les Amants, but Magritte disliked this explanation. Magritte's earlist paintings, which date from about 1915, were Impressionistic in style. From 1916 to 1918 he studied at the ...

Surreal images (René Magritte)René Francois Ghislain Magritte (1898- 1967) Magritte was a Belgian surrealist artist. He became well known for a number of witty and thought provoking images. His intended goal for his work was to challenge observers preconditioned perceptions of reality and force vieuwers to become hypersensitive to their surroundings. At the age of 13, his mother committed suicide, and accordingly to a legend Magritte was present when her body was retrieved from the water of the river Sambre. The image of his mother floating, her dress obscuring her face, may have influenced his paintings. In Paris he met Andre Breton, and became involved in surrealism. Magritte's work frequently displays a juxtaposition of ordinary objects in an unusual context, giving new meanings to familiar things. "The treachery of Images" (la trahison des images) shows a pipe that looks as though it is a model for a tobacco store advertisement. Magritte painted below the pipe "ceci nést pas une pipe" (this is not a pipe), which seems a contradiction, but is actually true. When Magritte once was asked about this image he replied: "Ofcourse it's not a pipe, just try to fill it with tobacco" Magritte points out that no matter how closely we come to depicting an item accurately, we never do catch the item itself. René Magritte described his paintings as visible images which conceal nothing, they evoke mystery, and indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question; "What does that mean ...

Optical illusion -Rene Magritte - Negative after Image illusionOPTICAL ILLUSION BEST VIEW IN FULL SCREEN. Using the principle of Negative After image. I've created this illusion to demonstrate the effect, using Rene Magrittes "The False Mirror" Simply stare at the white pupil of the eye, try not to move your eyes or blink too much. When the image switches, it will appear as if it is the original full colour painting, in fact what you are looking at is a combination of the sensory input from the Black and White image combined with the negative afterimage left due to fatigue of your eyes photoreceptors (mostly cone cells). You can break the illusion at any time by moving your eyes, however if you stare directly at the pupil again, often the colour will magically reappear. Goes to show, that perception is not simply direct experience of reality, but a combination of sensory input, biological hardware, and psychology. Enjoy. Here is an explanation of the negative after image phenomena: Negative afterimages are caused when the eye's photoreceptors, primarily those known as cone cells, adapt from the over stimulation and lose sensitivity.[1] Normally the eye deals with this problem by rapidly moving the eye small amounts (see: microsaccade), the motion later being "filtered out" so it is not noticeable. However if the colour image is large enough that the small movements are not enough to change the color under one area of the retina, those cones will eventually tire or adapt and stop responding. The rod cells can also be affected by this ...
