The purpose of the 3/11 Tsunami Photo Project is to provide an informed perspective into the consequences of the tsunami and earthquake while also lending support to the disaster's victims. Through the eyes of 14 renowned photographers we wish to share with the world an in-depth look at both the disaster's aftermath and the victims' road to recovery. The 14 participating photographers Shiho Fukada (Japan), James Whitlow Delano (USA), Jean Chung (South Korea), Keith Bedford (USA), Paula Bronstein (USA), David Guttenfelder (USA), Giulio Di Sturco (Italy), Pieter Ten Hoopen (Sweden), Ko Sasaki (Japan), Jake Price (USA), Guillem Valle (Spain) and Ryo Kameyama (Japan) contributed 120 photographs. An English-Japanese bilingual digital photography book in the form of an app available through Apple iTunes for the iPad and iPhone on worldwide release, and includes recorded and written messages by the photographers to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami. Hr. Ms. Evertsen is vandaag teruggekeerd in thuishaven Den Helder na ingezet te zijn voor Operatie Atalanta. Uit handen van minister Eimert van Middelkoop ontving de bemanning van het fregat de Herinneringmedaille Vredesoperaties. Ook commandeur Pieter Bindt kreeg een medaille. Hij voerde de afgelopen 4 maanden vanaf Hr. Ms. Evertsen het commando over de EU-operatie Atalanta. De missie richt zich op de bestrijding van piraterij in de wateren rond Somalië. Ook het thuisfront was massaal naar Den Helder gekomen om de militairen een warm onthaal te geven. Daarnaast waren de voorzitter Vaste Kamercommissie Defensie Anouchka van Miltenburg, Tweede Kamerlid Jan ten Hoopen en Commandant Zeestrijdkrachten luitenant-generaal der mariniers Rob Zuiderwijk aanwezig. Zij reikten ook een deel van de herinneringmedailles uit. Van Middelkoop prees in zijn toespraak de inzet van de bemanning: U hebt een fantastische prestatie geleverd, ik heb dat zelf mogen aanschouwen tijdens mijn bezoeken aan uw schip. U hebt een grote inbreng gehad in het succes van de EU-missie Atalanta ter bestrijding van piraterij. Een missie in de wateren rond Somalië die ruim 4 maanden onder Nederlands commando heeft gestaan. Dit succes is niet vanzelf gekomen. U hebt daar hard aan gewerkt. De bewindspersoon keek terug op de roerige laatste weken van de missie, toen het schip piraten aanhield, maar die later weer moest laten gaan omdat het de Europese Unie niet lukte een land te vinden dat hen wilde berechten ...
