'Bienvenidos al Paraíso', de Nontsikelelo Veleko, en Casa Áfricawww.casafrica.es · www.facebook.com · twitter.com Casa África inauguró el 2 de diciembre de 2009 la exposición fotográfica 'Bienvenidos al Paraíso', una muestra que combina el singular trabajo en los últimos años de la sudafricana Nontsikelelo Veleko, un referente del género documental en el continente africano, con su reciente exploración por las calles de diversos municipios de Gran Canaria para captar la vida de los africanos que residen en las Islas.
Africalls: artist LOLO VELEKO ~~ am I Black enough?Nontsikelelo "Lolo" Veleko Africacalls South African photographer / artist Born in 1977, Nontsikelelo Veleko lives and works in Johannesburg. She is a highly original photographer and project manager/co-coordinator at the Market Photo Workshop, where she previously trained in the art of photography. In the last couple of years, Lolo has been gathering a great deal of attention with her striking work entitled Beauty is in the eyes of a beholder. She was a nominee and finalist of the MTN New Contemporary Artists in 2003 and has since been participating in important local and international exhibitions. Already this year, her photographs were exhibited in the landmark exhibition Snap Judgements : New Positions in Contemporary African Photography at the International Center of Photography in New York and in Personae Scenarios-the new African Photography, Brancolini Grimaldi Arte Contemporanea in Rome. Also recently she was participating in well publicized shows like Click at the Goodman Gallery in Johannesburg, or Unsettled, 8 South African photographers in Denmark, Sweden and South Africa, as well as other exhibitions and projects in Switzerland, the United States and of course at home.

Reflections on the Self exhibition at The Gallery at NUCAAn exhibition of Five African Women Photographers, which took place in The Gallery at Norwich University College of the Arts from Tuesday 27th September to Saturday 15th October. A touring show from the Hayward Gallery, Reflections on the Self presented women's visual narratives, as told through self-portraits and portraits of other women. Five photographers, Hélène Amouzou, Majida Khattari, Zanele Muholi, Senayt Samuel and Nontsikelelo Veleko engage with issues such as identity, sexuality and displacement, and their work often overturns stereotypical expectations.
