I think if it weren't for his vids the bike would still be sitting and rusting out under a tarp in the back yard. Drew Gatewood's Got the will to get to BonnevilleBonneville Stories Part XIIII "Got the will to get to Bonneville" Drew Gatewood is a man of many passions- family, speed, music and fun. His quest for speed started early when he found a 4 cycle engine and rebuilt it with his father. A passion was ignited and grew. In 1987 Drew's Motorcycle Service was born. Drew and his wife who now had a son, ran the shop, which won some rather nice awards for 21 years, closing at the end of 2008. He started the "Chesterton Motorcycle Club," ran charity events, competed in hill climbs and Dirt Drag racing events and iced raced in the long Indiana winters. Drew initially received his FIM technical steward license 2006 and 2010 will mark his 5th year working at the BUB speed trials. There is one more passion of Drew's in his life-music. Drew had the opportunity to go to the Berkelee College of Music in Boston but he chose a life of speed, so it is no surprise that his music is the ultimate soundtrack of the flats experience.

Boyer Mark III Timing at 1000 KM RebuildAfter 1000 km's of my top-end rebuild I thought I would check the timing. I have a Boyer Mark III electronic ignition. When I originally timed the bike with the brand new rings and pistons I only timed at 3500 RPM because I didn't want to burn out the new rings. Now that the rings have bedded in nicely (I think), I went to 5000 RPM for full advance. I was spot on. Bike runs strong. Hopefully I can get a few more weeks of riding before snowfall. CMR Bonneville 2011 - In-carFinally got some footage for you all. You'll see me set the camera on, the starter come and take over, have the doors closed, the visor swept down and the car on it's way. Quarter mile markers flash past both sides black, and Mile markers orange. Dad is in 5th gear just before the 1 mile marker and then pulls form 7500RPM in 5th through to nearly 9000RPM before the 3 mile mark. You'll see him back off when he pops the parachute which does all of the deceleration for him. Then he coasts off to the return road to wait for us (takes us about 4 minutes to get to where he is)

Bonneville Porsche 928 RecordThis video shows our record-breaking land speed run in the Porsche 928. It combines in-car video, starting line, and a drive-by video that was being shot at the 3-mile mark. You can hear Carl testing the limits of available traction 3 times.... as he pushes into the throttle until the tires break, then modulates and pushes in again. There is no lifting out of the throttle at these speeds unless you want to go 'round! Final speed attained for the world 928 record was 216.63537 MPH
Mickey Thompson: Fastest Man on WheelsMickey Thompson roared out of the hot rodding world of Southern California to become the "Fastest Man on Wheels," when his Pontiac powered Challenger One broke the 400 mph mark at the Bonneville Salt Flats. This didn't become an official record because of difficulties he encountered on a second run. The speed authorities require a second run and take the average for the record books. This promotional film captures the drama of his attempt.
