The Forgotten Space - Official German Trailer HD 1080pThe sea is forgotten until disaster strikes. But perhaps the biggest seagoing disaster is the global supply chain, which -- maybe in a more fundamental way than financial speculation -- leads the world economy to the abyss. The Forgotten Space follows container cargo aboard ships, barges, trains and trucks, listening to workers, engineers, planners, politicians, and those marginalized by the global transport system. We visit displaced farmers and villagers in Holland and Belgium, underpaid truck drivers in Los Angeles, seafarers aboard mega-ships shuttling between Asia and Europe, and factory workers in China, whose low wages are the fragile key to the whole puzzle. And in Bilbao, we discover the most sophisticated expression of the belief that the maritime economy, and the sea itself, is somehow obsolete. A range of materials is used: descriptive documentary, interviews, archive stills and footage, clips from old movies. The result is an essayistic, visual documentary about one of the most important processes that affects us today. The Forgotten Space is based on Sekula's Fish Story, seeking to understand and describe the contemporary maritime world in relation to the complex symbolic legacy of the sea. THE FORGOTTEN SPACE A Film Essay by Allan Sekula and Noel Burch The maritime economy forms part of one of the most important processes that affects us today, the global supply chain. This essayistic and visual documentary travels around the world, to the ports of Rotterdam, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Bilbao. As poetic as it is polemic the film features interviews, archive stills and clips from classic movies -- a testament to Noel Burch's position as grand old man of film theory. THE FORGOTTEN SPACE follows container cargo aboard ships, barges, trains and trucks, listening to workers, engineers, planners, politicians, and those marginalized by the global transport system. It visits displaced farmers and villagers in Holland and Belgium, underpaid truck drivers in Los Angeles, seafarers aboard mega-ships shuttling between Asia and Europe, and factory workers in China, whose low wages are the fragile key to the whole puzzle. As the directors say, " the sea is still the crucial space of globalization. It is here that the confusion, the violence and the alienation of contemporary capitalism are most evident."

- Insurrection d'un songe - Olwen GaucherLes zones portuaires, les architectures mobiles, l'insularité et la phénoménologie apparaissent en filigrane dans la pratique sculpturale et vidéo d'Olwen Gaucher. Ses œuvres se révèlent comme autant d'éléments constitutifs d'une « zone de non-lieu » qui lui permettent à la fois de questionner un monde en mouvement -- régi par les déplacements -- et de prendre en compte la réalité à travers l'empreinte d'objets. Tourné en Super-8, format qui lui confère un aspect documentaire et fragile, le film Insurrection d'un songe consiste en une action des plus simples : les éléments en plastique de la structure fantomatique d'un sous-marin sont sortis d'un container, assemblés à l'extérieur, repliés puis rangés dans le même habitacle. Élément récurrent du vocabulaire plastique d'Olwen Gaucher, le container est considéré ici comme symbole de la standardisation et de la circulation des marchandises.
