Open Eye Gallery supports, promotes and exhibits the best contemporary photography from the UK and beyond. Since opening our doors in 1977, we have built a reputation for innovation and excellence. Whilst photography is at the heart of our artistic programme, a variety of media are represented, including film, video and installation. Our programme also includes occasional historical exhibitions that look back with particular interest at work that exerts a strong influence on contemporary practice. Through our exhibitions, publications, projects and events we aim to present the photographic image, both still and moving, in a rich context of critical and historical debate. Open Eye has gallery space of approximately 100m2. In addition to our gallery programme we also produce occasional off-site exhibitions and projects. Appearing in various shapes, sizes and places, these projects develop dynamic relationships between art, artists and audiences beyond the gallery. Education is at the heart of Open Eye’s activities. The education programme seeks, through talks, seminars and projects, to explore the ways in which photographic images are made and used, and to stimulate debate about photography and contemporary art. Open Eye is a limited company and a registered charity. We receive core funding from Arts Council North West and Liverpool City Council and raise additional income from a variety of sources, including charitable trusts, foundations and corporate sponsorship.
