Today’s window on regional folk art and guardian of traditions, the Gruyerian Museum sets the pace of the region’s cultural events as it stages temporary exhibitions, displays rich collections of folk art and farm interiors (restored from rural dwellings and an Alpine cheese dairy). In the heart of "the green Gruyère", homeland of Gruyère cheese, and the world-famous Ranz des vaches, a song of mysterious origin, as well as of more recent choral music: a unique museum in a modern building at the foot of a medieval castle. A vast collection of folk art Permanent Exhibition traditional regional furniture from patricians and farmers naïve "poyas", peasant paintings of the ceremonious ascent to the alpine pastures cowbells with carved woodcollars and embroidered leathercollars cream spoons ant butter moulds carved in wood utensils, statues, costumes... On an area of 1500 m2 an original and exclusive display of traditional living and working quarters; developments (history, life and traditions, pastoral cycle). Temporary exhibitions (folk art, modern art, history, handicrafts). A modern public library.
