EIKON is a quality international quarterly exploring photography and media art. Ever since its founding in 1991, the magazine has featured well-researched articles as well as extensive illustrations in each issue, around 90 pages in length. The journal is published by the Österreichisches Institut für Photographie und Medienkunst (ÖIP), located in Vienna’s Museumsquartier. The journal appears in both German and English.

In the Artist Pages, freelance writers present the works of primarily younger, up and coming artists from around the world in extensive reports with high theoretical standards. Our Forum provides space for subjects that go beyond individual works and positions. In our series In Conversation, artists can speak for themselves. In other rubrics, experts cover decisive changes on the art market as well as notable collections. Reviews of exhibitions from all over Europe can be found in our Exhibitions section, which is followed by our book reviews. An extensive exhibition calendar and information on upcoming competitions and other events round out the journal.

ÖIP not only publishes EIKON, but also engages in several other cultural activities. Edition EIKON has been in publication since 1995, hand-signed and numbered photographs by both prominent and up and coming artists in strictly limited editions. The goal of this initiative is to offer quality art at affordable prices. In so doing, we hope to interest more and more people in collecting, especially younger people. The works are carefully selected, and the editions are limited to an average of 30. They are thus a good investment: a long-term increase in value is assured.

ÖIP also publishes exhibition catalogs and artist books. This decisively contributes to increasingly the diversity in the art world.

At EIKON Schaufenster, photography, videos, and installations by Austrian artists are presented. This showcase thus enlarges the prominent platform that the journal EIKON already offers. The program includes artists presented in the current issue.

Those interested can also use the publically accessible library at the EIKON office, with over 5000 books in the realm of photography and media art, with more each day.

At our Foto-Talks series, EIKON encourages public debate on artistic and cultural issues.

In addition, EIKON is present at the most important international art fairs, where it also turns to a broad audience.
