Renowned for its innovative, scholarly, and thematic exhibitions and publications, China Institute Gallery is one of the leading professional galleries in the United States to introduce Chinese art and culture through exhibitions and related programs. Since its establishment in 1966, the China Institute Gallery has launched first-class thematic exhibitions, both domestic and international, of the finest Chinese works of art, including painting, calligraphy, ceramics, bronzes, decorative art, folk art, architecture, photography, and textiles.
The gallery invites distinguished art-historians and scholars in other academic fields to curate exhibitions. Scholarly catalogues are published by the Gallery to accompany these original exhibitions and to provide in-depth explorations of their subjects. In addition, the Gallery bridges the different levels of its audience through symposia, art educational programs, and workshops.
China Institute Gallery currently presents two major exhibitions annually. The Gallery’s permanent exhibition space provides an intimate setting that encourages close examination and appreciation of the objects on display. China Institute Gallery also offers traveling exhibitions to other venues. With an exemplary history of over 100 exhibitions produced in-house, the China Institute Gallery continues to provide the public with exhibitions that complement a wide range of intellectual inquiry.
