Pap Gyula exhibition at Budapest
Gyula Pap (1899-1983) was the Hungarian Bauhäusler. Painter, graphic artist, industrial designer and photographer. Between 1914-17 student at the Graphischen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna. Between 1917-18 soldier in the Battle of Doberdó (today Doberdob, SLO). Between 1920-23 student at the Bauhaus – Weimar in the metal workshop. Worked as lithographer between 1923-25 in the Hungarian southern plains and southern Transylvania. Painting teacher at the Itten Schule in Berlin between 1926-33. André Kertész Budapest, Paris, New York
Il grandit dans un environnement tzigane. Il rêve très tôt de devenir photographe. En 1905, son père meurt et il est confié à un tuteur qui travaille à la Bourse de Budapest, où il sera lui-même employé de 1912 à 1914, après avoir suivi des études à l'Académie de commerce de la ville.
En 1913, il achète son premier appareil photo : un ICA.
En 1914, il sert dans l'armée austro-hongroise. Il réalise alors beaucoup de photographies, témoignant de ses expériences de guerre. Il publie ses premières photos dans un journal et gagne un concours de magazine, mais la plupart de ses négatifs et de ses plaques sont détruits p...
