Photography Day 2009 - Cultural heritage and Family photography

Photography Day 2009 takes place for the third time and celebrates the year of cultural heritage by focusing on family photography, highlighted by the main exhibition and four talks on the subject.

Family- and snapshot photographs represent some of our most important cultural memories. Everyday we produce thousands of family- and vernacular photographs. Eight Women Photographers from the Preus Museum Collection

The history of photography has been written with an emphasis primarily on male photographers. But from as early as the 19th century, photography was regarded as an important profession for women, and women photographers have made major contributions to the history of the discipline. This exhibition turns a spotlight on eight women photographers who figure in the Preus Museum collection, representing a total time span of 140 years.

Larry Clark - Teenage Lust

“I wanted to present the way kids see things, but without all this baggage...You know...they're living in the moment not thinking about anything beyond that and that's what I wanted to catch. And I wanted the viewer to feel like you're there with them -- you can be there fucking, smoking dope, having sex..." Larry Clark Preus museum and Torpedo Art Bookshop are proud to present Teenage Lust, a series of photographs from 1982 by Larry Clark. Shown for the first time in Norway, the exhibition includes the complete series of 83 photographs from the early 60's to the early 80's.

Into the Landscape

The exhibition Into the Landscape looks at the genre of landscape, from the 19th century voyage pittoresque to aerial photography, from the postcard to contemporary conceptual landscape pictures. On display are over 100 works by professional and amateur photographers, researchers and artists from other disciplines.
