Metamorphosis of Japan after the War (1945-1964)

In the years following the Second World War in Japan, photography played an important role in the development of a new national identity. From the shock of the atomic bomb to the country's re-emergence at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, important photographers documented the birth of a new Japanese nation. This exhibition includes 123 photographs, as well as books, magazines and exhibition catalogues featuring works from 11 leading representatives of Japanese photography of these years.

Every fashion needs its room. Fashion is three-dimensional by definition: it covers the body, it forms, exposes or conceals the body, brings out certain parts of the body and makes others disappear.

Yet fashion is ephemeral and needs photography to ensure its survival. In the process, fashion's spatial dynamic is transferred to the two-dimensional plane of the photographic exposure. Simone Mangos

In 1998, Simone Mangos began to research the site of the former Ministerial Gardens in Berlin and subsequently the emergence of the 'Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe'. Her works explore the different stages in the memorial building process; the controversies, reactions and campaigns, which took place around them; memory and its representation. At the Museum für Fotografie, Simone Mangos will be showing photographic work, and the ruined Kaisersaal has inspired her to reproduce a historical construction from the memorial site in life size. Humanism in China

With 590 photographs taken by 250 different Chinese photographers, this exhibition, organized by the Guangdong Museum of Art in Guangzhou, offers a wide-ranging panorama of life in modern China. At the same time, it constitutes a revealing stocktaking of Chinese documentary photography during the last 50 years. Raymond Depardon VILLES CITIES STÄDTE
