Karla Black - ENCOUNTERS: COVA MACÍAS
This autumn Modern Art Oxford presents the most comprehensive UK exhibition to date of work by Glasgow-based artist Karla Black. Black has come to public prominence in recent years with her expansive floor-based and hanging sculptures created from materials that suggest both a sensory recollection of childhood: powder-paint, crushed chalk and sugar paper; and a distinct feminine association: lipstick, nail varnish and body cream.

SILKE OTTO-KNAPP - PRESENT TIME EXERCISE
The first major exhibition in the UK of the London-based artist Silke Otto-Knapp. Devised as a single installation for Modern Art Oxford's Upper Gallery, the exhibition presents thirteen paintings produced by Otto-Knapp between 2005 and 2009.
Silke Otto-Knapp works with watercolour and gouache on canvas, repeatedly building up and dissolving the surface to create paintings of subtle effect. Robert Mapplethorpe - Polaroids
This exhibition traces the American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe's use of instant photography from 1970 to 1975. Bringing together almost one hundred polaroids taken by the artist, the exhibition includes self-portraits, figure studies, still lifes, and portraits of lovers and friends such as Patti Smith and Marianne Faithfull. These disarming, and at times moving, pictures offer insight into the artist's creative development at a formative time in his career.
