The Digital Eye : Photographic Art in the Electronic Age, at the Henry Gallery

Technology has driven the art and science of photography since the invention of the medium in the early 19th century. Digital photography is the most recent development, and in many ways the most perplexing and provocative. New cameras, printing techniques, and software allow artists greater freedom than ever before to take photographs of the real world and to generate images from the imagination. Landscape as Real Estate builds upon the Henry’s long history wi...

At the same time, governments worldwide have asserted vast new powers of surveillance, putting unwitting «participants» on an entirely different stage. Against this backdrop, The Talent Show, examines a range of complicated relationships that have emerged between artists, audiences, and participants in light of the competing desires for notoriety and privacy that mark our prese...

Seattle Camera Club - Shadows of a Fleeting World

Shadows of a Fleeting World presents over 200 works by Seattle Camera Club photographers and others in the Seattle area who worked in the pictorial style during the movement’s heyday. The Seattle Camera Club (SCC) was founded in 1924 by Japanese immigrants to the Pacific Northwest. The activities of SCC photographers paralleled those of members of Japanese immigrant photography clubs in Los Angeles and San Francisco, but the SCC was distinguished by its enthusiastic and successful efforts to recruit non-Japanese members and by its monthly journal, Notan, which more than any other factor preser...
